1. These Terms
These Terms govern your use of the OpenPlayer TV application, website, pairing portal, and pairing infrastructure. OpenPlayer is a free service operated from Sweden. By using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use OpenPlayer.
Nothing in these Terms removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under Swedish or other mandatory consumer law applicable to you.
2. What OpenPlayer provides
OpenPlayer is a general-purpose media player for compatible TVs. It helps you connect a TV to a media source that you independently choose. The pairing portal lets you enter provider details on a phone instead of typing them with a TV remote.
OpenPlayer is provided without a subscription fee, in-app purchases, or advertising. No payment information is requested by OpenPlayer.
OpenPlayer does not supply subscriptions, accounts, playlists, channels, films, series, programme rights, or provider recommendations. OpenPlayer's server does not host, store, cache, proxy, or retransmit media streams. Playback traffic goes directly between your TV and the provider you configure.
3. Your media source
You are responsible for choosing and maintaining your media source and for having the rights or permission needed to access its content. You must comply with applicable law and with the provider's terms. OpenPlayer does not verify, endorse, or control third-party providers or their content.
Do not ask OpenPlayer support for provider credentials, playlists, pirated content, trial lines, or recommendations for obtaining unauthorised media. Content, billing, availability, and account issues must be directed to your provider.
4. Pairing and credentials
During pairing, your phone encrypts provider credentials for your TV. The OpenPlayer server relays the encrypted envelope only while the TV is online and does not store or queue it. OpenPlayer cannot decrypt the envelope because the private key remains on the TV.
Credentials are stored locally by the TV application after pairing. You are responsible for the physical security of the TV, the provider account, and any PIN you configure. Unpair the device, clear application data, or uninstall the application before giving the TV to another person.
5. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use OpenPlayer to access or distribute media without the required rights or permission;
- share stolen credentials or use the service for fraud, infringement, or another unlawful purpose;
- probe, bypass, or defeat authentication, pairing security, rate limits, or access controls;
- introduce malware or interfere with the service, another device, or another user;
- flood, scrape, brute-force, overload, or automate requests in a way that harms availability or security;
- misrepresent an affiliation with OpenPlayer or use OpenPlayer branding in a misleading way.
This section does not restrict rights to inspect, modify, or interoperate with software where those rights cannot lawfully be excluded.
6. Third-party services and compatibility
Your provider, TV operating system, device manufacturer, application store, network operator, Cloudflare, Telegram, and other third-party services have their own terms and privacy practices. OpenPlayer is not responsible for their content, prices, availability, decisions, or changes.
Compatibility can vary by TV model, firmware, codec, stream format, provider configuration, network, and application-store rules. A provider working in another player does not guarantee that every stream will work in OpenPlayer, and an OpenPlayer update cannot guarantee continued support for every third-party format.
7. Updates and service changes
OpenPlayer may release fixes, security updates, compatibility changes, and new or removed features. You should keep the app and TV software current. The pairing service may be changed, rate-limited, interrupted for maintenance, or discontinued. Where reasonably possible, material planned changes will be communicated through the website or application.
Because the service is free and depends on third-party platforms and infrastructure, continuous availability is not guaranteed.
8. Suspension and device blocks
OpenPlayer may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect the service, comply with law, investigate abuse, or enforce these Terms. Repeated or serious attacks, pairing abuse, or attempts to evade restrictions may result in a hardware-level block using a Tizen DUID or Android ANDROID_ID.
A hardware block is intended as a last-resort security measure and can remain after reinstalling the app. Contact support if you believe a restriction was applied incorrectly. OpenPlayer will review the available service records and the reason for the block.
9. Intellectual property
OpenPlayer's name, branding, website design, original application code, and documentation are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Third-party libraries remain subject to their own licences. Media names, logos, and programme information supplied by your provider belong to their respective owners.
You keep ownership of feedback you submit. You give OpenPlayer a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to use, reproduce, adapt, and publish that feedback for operating and improving the service. Private in-app and pairing feedback will not be published as public feedback without a separate decision and an appropriate lawful basis.
An optional contact email submitted with public feedback is not part of the public feedback and is not covered by the permission to publish feedback. It remains private and is handled only as described in the Privacy Policy.
For a copyright concern about material that OpenPlayer itself hosts or owns, use the copyright contact shown below. For media delivered by a provider, contact the provider or hosting party that controls that material.
10. Support
OpenPlayer can help with installation, pairing, application navigation, crashes, and application-specific playback behaviour. Support is offered on a reasonable-efforts basis and does not guarantee a particular response time or resolution.
OpenPlayer cannot provide media accounts, playlists, channels, provider recommendations, or help bypass provider restrictions. Do not send provider passwords, full playlist URLs, payment information, or other unnecessary secrets to support.
If you optionally provide an email and consent on the feedback form, OpenPlayer may contact you only about that specific feedback. Providing an email is not required to submit feedback, does not guarantee a response, and can be withdrawn through the privacy contact method.
11. Warranty
OpenPlayer is provided free of charge on an “as available” basis. It may contain errors or experience interruptions. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no additional promise is made that the service will always be available, error-free, compatible with every device or provider, or suitable for a particular purpose.
This section does not exclude any statutory guarantee, remedy, or consumer right that applies despite these Terms.
12. Liability
OpenPlayer is responsible for loss only to the extent required by applicable law. To the extent legally permitted, OpenPlayer is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, loss caused by a third-party provider or service, unauthorised media use, loss of provider access, or a failure outside OpenPlayer's reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, breach of data-protection law, or another liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
13. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains what personal data OpenPlayer processes, why it is processed, retention periods, service providers, and your GDPR rights. It forms part of the information governing your use of the service but does not reduce rights provided by data-protection law.
Feedback contact emails are optional, visible only to authenticated OpenPlayer administrators, never shown on the public feedback board, and retained only for the limited period stated in the Privacy Policy.
Cookie Preferences and supported browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals control optional website analytics as described in the Privacy Policy. These choices do not disable processing that is strictly necessary to provide pairing, maintain security, prevent abuse, or remember your privacy preference, and they do not control an independent third party's service.
14. Ending use
You may stop using OpenPlayer at any time. Unpairing removes the server-side device record and device-scoped diagnostics and tells the TV app to clear its local provider configuration. You can also clear application data or uninstall the app. Some support, feedback, security, and legal records may remain for the periods described in the Privacy Policy.
15. Changes to these Terms
These Terms may be updated to reflect changes to the service, security, third-party requirements, or law. The updated date will be shown on this page. Material changes will be communicated through the website or application where reasonably appropriate. Changes will not retroactively remove rights that have already arisen under mandatory law.
16. Swedish law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Swedish law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protection provided by the law of your country of residence.
Please contact OpenPlayer first so there is an opportunity to resolve the issue. A dispute may be brought before a competent Swedish court or any other court available to you under mandatory consumer law.
